Generative Environments Lab

Designing environments means negotiating rules, data, materials, climates, and multiple forms of intelligence. GenEnv treats these conditions as active materials for design. We develop generative and agentic AI methods that interpret complex environments, reason through constraints, and work within professional design tools, while keeping outcomes editable, traceable, and open to human judgment.

Based at UBC SALA, the lab brings together faculty, researchers, alumni, and collaborators across architecture, landscape architecture, and urbanism. Research, teaching, and toolmaking operate as a shared practice.

Form language — form follows the work

Every block's massing comes from the kind of work it holds — the family carries the meaning, the data sets the size. Status is drawn, not badged: funded work stands on a full-plot plinth, archive work is a dashed ghost, in-press writing is drafted in long dash.
